HVAC
Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps, Solar thermal, and more. We guide you from feasibility to submission, offering site assessments, system design advice, and full management of planning or householder applications when needed.
When do HVAC systems require planning permission?
Various HVAC Systems will require granted planning permission. Any system installed on a protected building, including Listed Buildings and those in conservation areas or an area of natural beauty will require consideration for how the appearance of the building and surrounding area will be affected. We can provide the necessary site plans and elevations alongside heritage statements to ensure acceptance for your new system.
Placement of units will often move an install away from permitted development. This is often true for the placement of Heat Pumps and Air Conditioning systems, such as those close to property boundaries or placed upon a flat roof.
If you’re unsure if your system will require planning permission, feel free to get in touch for free advice.
Although most Heat pump installations will usually be considered permitted development, exceptions to this aren’t uncommon.
Cascade systems containing two or more heat pumps may require permission if over a certain physical size, with applicable rules differing between England and Wales. Similarly, Heat Pumps placed closer than 3m to property boundaries will require a planning application to show consideration for aesthetics, noise assessments, and respect for the surrounding environment.
If your proposed system is designed externally, we can ensure your application reflects all relevant local planning regulations, including visual impact, noise assessments, manufacturer requirements and efficiency of the system.
